- 2000) GENERAL INFORMATION:
- --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- 2001) What is Global Volunteer Database(GVD)?
-
- GVD (Global Volunteer Database) is a compiled list of SCHK netters
- who are willing to provide information through e-mail for netters in other
- parts of the world.
-
- --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- 2002) Why do we need GVD?
-
- Every now and then, we all need some kind of help from someone in
- another city or in another country; we need information on a degree
- program in another university thousands of miles away; we want to find
- our long lost classmate in another city or we simply need travel information
- in another state. We have all seen postings after postings of that
- nature in SCHK, wouldn't it be nice if we have known someone who are
- willing to provide us with information when we need it? This is what
- the GVD is all about.
-
- --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- 2003) Who are GVD volunteer and what responsiblity do they have?
-
- GVD consists of SCHK netters from around the world who
- are willing to help other netters. The volunteer will
- answer questions for the school he/she attends or provides
- info for the city where he/she resides. It is a pure voluntary
- activity and the volunteer will not charge a fee for his/her
- service. GVD volunteers are those who are out there to help others.
-
- Please note, however, the information given by the volunteer will be
- made available to the public. In other words, every netter will have
- access to them. If any volunteer choses not to reveal certain information,
- please exclude it from the e-mail.
-
- --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- 2004) Who can use GVD?
-
- Everyone who has access to this database can make use of the
- info in GVD. However, GVD cannot be sold for profit and the user
- cannot charge a fee for his/her service.
-
- --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- 2005) What is the ultimate goal for GVD?
-
- Thousands of students leave Hong Kong every year to pursue
- advance degree in US, Canada, UK and Australia. The big majority
- of us do not know what to expect when we get on the plane.
- Our mission is to make available the GVD database to the Heng Seng
- Oversea Study Center (something like that) in HK, American Chamber of
- Commerce in HK, the Institute of International Education in Hong Kong and
- other organisations who assist students in HK to study aboard.
- Our volunteer in HK will physically go into the center and give
- the counselors a lesson on how to use AT&T e-mail from HK to
- contact our volunteers. GVD will also be available to the
- "Breakthru" Magazine of which they already have something similar
- for many years, only now it goes hi-tech thru Internet. :)
-
- The Hong Kong Student Association from every all univ.
- and college around the world SHOULD HAVE AT LEAST ONE volunteer
- in the GVD. It will help Hong Kong Students around the world to
- communicate better in event that we have not foreseen. This will
- become an important step in moving SCHK from a discussion only forum to
- an organized global network for Hong Kong people. Something that
- we might rely on after 1997. :)
-
- --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- 2006) Who is in charge of the GVD?
-
- Kelvin Leung from Dartmoth College in New Hampshire, USA. You can
- reach him at "abs0@coos.dartmouth.edu". You are welcome to send him
- any complaints, compliments, flames, suggestions, changes of address...
- You can also reach him via regular mail. His current address is:
- Kelvin Leung, HB 2896, Dartmouth College, NH 03755, USA.
-
- --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- 2007) How can I obtain a copy of the GVD?
-
- A copy of the lastest GVD will be available in the bi-monthly
- posting of SCHK FAQ. If you REALLY cannot wait, pleae contact Kelvin
- Leung at "abs0@coos.dartmouth.edu".
-
- --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- 2008) How can I become a volunteer?
-
